DIY Recipe for Scented Candles

Candle making is simple, and we've given you the best formula for making DIY candles using your favorite fragrance oils for candle making. You can experiment with different fragrance oil mixtures to see which one best suits you.

Scented Candles DIY

Ingredients

  • 4-ounce soy wax
  • Fragrance Oil (Make your own fragrance oil blend)
  • Double boiler
  • Thermometer
  • Candle container (like small jars, paper mold)
  • Spray oil
  • Wicks

Method

Step 1: To start, grate or mince your beeswax. It will melt faster if you slice it finer. Set up a double boiler if you're using one. Allow the beeswax to melt on the top of the boiler, stirring occasionally. Using a thermometer, check that the wax heat does not reach 190°C Fahrenheit.

Step 2: Once the beeswax has dissolved, add your favorite fragrance oil or a mix of oils (approximately 30ml of oil would suffice for a 250ml candle) and color powder. Do this over high heat and rapidly, so the coloring agent can easily blend. Once everything has been poured and blended, turn off the heat to ensure that the color and oil are uniformly dispersed. Set your container aside and quickly prepare it.

Step 3: Cover a makeshift container with some oil to make it easier to remove. The wick is then inserted by attaching it to a stick and placing it diagonally across the top of the container so that it hangs upright. Fill the container with wax until it reaches about 2cm from the top. Because the candle may shrink in the center, you may need to add a little extra wax if necessary.

Step 4: Remove the candles from the container and allow them for at least two days before detaching the wick or igniting it if using a permanent container.

Conclusion

Remember that the aroma is one of the most significant aspects of your creation when making candles or any other DIY that requires fragrance oil. As you may know, the smell is one of our five senses, and we encourage you to use it to its greatest potential.

These fragrance oils can be included in a wide range of recipes and merged together to create something unique, which is an adventure in itself. Using a carrier oil in conjunction with a fragrance oil boosts the fragrance oil's overall effectiveness and aroma.
